How much technology do you use?

technologyUse as much technology as you are comfortable with

There are some really great tools available to support you in your work. Laptops, desktops, tablets, smart phones, etc., all can combine to help you get things done faster and more efficiently than ever before.

But the technology has to work for you. It is, after all, just a tool.

You don’t have to do email on your smart phone just because that feature is available, for example. Unless it is useful to you, feel free to ignore it.

Here’s an example. I’ve been thinking it would be cool to have an iPad. I have a MacBook Pro and an iPhone, and I do love the Apple products. However, when I really looked at what I would use an iPad for, I discovered (at least for now) that it really wouldn’t add to my productivity. In fact, it would just add more stuff I had to take with me on business trips. Some of the features and functions I would want to use are not currently available, and others are just as available on my iPhone and my laptop.

So, that piece of technology isn’t making it onto my list right now.

However, I have some clients who have and use and LOVE their iPad. It makes what they do out in the field so much easier and is so much easier to carry around than their laptop!

What makes sense to you?
