Your Strategy

strategyGet very clear about your strategy – what is the point of what you are doing?

Have you ever looked at your to do list and had the thought “what is all of this about?”

When your task list occurs like an endless list of stuff to do, it is almost certainly because you have lost sight of the bigger picture.

The actions on your schedule (hopefully) should relate to the fulfillment of goals you are actively working on. So, each task brings you one step closer to achieving the goal.

You may need to take time and step back to give yourself the broader view of what you’re actually doing.

It’s very hard to see the field when you are looking at it from the perspective of the field mouse. The owl has a wider view by virtue of a different perspective.

Give yourself that perspective before you dive back into the individual tasks.

Thanks for the reminder to step back and gain that larger perspective.

  2. Sue Painter says:

So agree that the wider perspective keeps your decisions clear. Otherwise you are deciding on mood and the moment, not strategically. Thanks!

  3. Great points – I’ll be the owl please! love the analogy!
It does feel good to be working on something that is part of a goal you’re working towards – a goal with an end-date!

  4. Great info. It is so important to have a eagle’s view and ground view if we are to succeed. I see to many entrepreneurs doing things just because they think they should with no real tie-back to their overall goals.

  5. Jessica says:

I need a social media time triage! I have so many things on my to do list for my FB fan page, YouTube Channel, and Pinterest account, for 3 businesses, my head is spinning. But I will start looking at it from the owl’s perspective and prioritize.

  6. Lisa Manyon says:

Strategy is so crucial to EVERYTHING. Working on my own again because I’ve been so busy helping preferred clients with theirs. 🙂

    Write on!~

  7. “When your task list occurs like an endless list of stuff to do, it is almost certainly because you have lost sight of the bigger picture.” I love this statement because I can so relate. Whenever it seems like all I am doing are “tasks”, that’s the time I reevaluate. Great tips!

  8. Mitch Tublin says:

No one should utilize a ‘to do’ list in business.
There is nothing to keep you accountable.
There is no tie to a goal or a bigger vision.
There is nothing about your team or delegation.
Agreed – no ‘to do’ lists.
